Vistamar takes a chance on freshness, and Descorchados 2022 acknowledges its wines with outstanding scores

At Vistamar, we feel particularly honored by the remarkable distinctions granted to our wines in the latest version of the Descorchados Guide by wine-writer Patricio Tapia. These outstanding scores speak, above all, of our commitment to cool-climate sectors for all our wines. Whether on the coastal area or in the Andean piedmont, the wines are reaching the results our winemaking team was expecting.

As its name suggests, Vistamar was born with the idea of offering wines that reflect the particular characteristics of the Chilean coastal valleys, that is, wines that look as directly as possible to our not-so-peaceful ocean. In the beginning, the origin of our cool-climate whites and reds was in the Casablanca Valley. But shortly after, the need to expand our portfolio led us to look for other areas to plant traditional varieties in sectors where they would enjoy a slow ripening process and live life to fresh and juicy wines.

For this purpose, we chose a property located in the Andean sector of the Cachapoal Valley, a few kilometers from our Pelequén winery. There, the mountain breezes refresh the vineyards that originate two of our excellent red wines, rated by Descorchados with 93 points: Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon and Gran Reserva Carmenère; both from the 2019 vintage. It is worth bearing in mind that these two reds are the result of the first harvest of both varieties in our Cachapoal Andes vineyard. These excellent scores speak of the exceptional viticultural conditions of this young Cordillera vineyard, which is just beginning to astonish us with its quality. On the other hand, our Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2020 from the Casablanca Valley, which belongs to the same wine range, also scored 93 points.

Vistamar offers furthermore two blends that speak of their respective origins: Corte de Campo Andes 2019 (a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Petite Sirah, and Petit Verdot, all from our property in Cachapoal Andes), and Corte de Campo Costa 2020 (a white blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Sémillon, and Gewürztraminer from our vineyards in Casablanca). Both their 91 points mirror the great creativity and good taste of our winemaker.

We also want to highlight two other Vistamar wines acknowledged by Descorchados: Single Estate Carmenère 2020 (from the Maipo Valley), acclaimed as Super Price wine for this variety, and Single Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2021 (Casablanca Valley), both with 91 points. Single Estate is a range of recent addition to the Vistamar portfolio. The wines that make it up come from single vineyards, either located on the coast or in the mountains.
